Ulises Salazar – Under Belt

What got you started in martial arts?  What keeps in involved? After the COVID lockdown, I realized I needed to find something to challenge me physically.  I was curious and decided to give karate a try.  The physical challenge remains, always evolving, always demanding more. But what truly keeps me coming back is the mental battlefield.

What's the most epic pre-competition meal you've ever had?  In Chicago one year ago, I had this amazing tower of pancakes. It was delicious.

Imagine you're giving a pep talk to your younger self just starting out in karate. What's the one piece of advice you'd give them?  Get shin guards!  I injured my shin at my first tournament. Make sure you have all the equipment you need and are ready to go.  Your body is your instrument, treat it with respect.
